Social Work & Management
About the Program
Social Work is a service field that supports people in shaping their lives and meeting their basic needs. It deals with the problems of socially disadvantaged individuals and groups in society and works towards resolving those problems. At the same time, it carries out preventive work to stop people from falling into economic and psychosocial crises.
This unique program imparts not only traditional social work competencies but also business knowledge and management skills. Modern social service organisations operate under high performance and competitive pressure. The shifting perspective — from care towards self-determination, empowerment, and inclusion — demands new concepts and working methods from professionals.
Special emphasis is placed on the core modules Child and Youth Welfare and Interculturality and Inclusion. With the particular needs of heterogeneous inclusive educational and employment environments in mind, counselling and support are central elements of professionalism in social work.
In addition to the Bachelor's degree, you have the opportunity to obtain the state-recognised qualification of Social Worker (Sozialarbeiter*in). At FHM Rostock you can progress at your own pace through full-time on-campus study or flexible distance-learning options.
